The former military barracks building is located in the historic centre of city of Olomouc within the area of the 1. máje, Koželužská, Hanáckého pluku and Pekární streets. The Barracks in Olomouc are recently withdrawn from sale procedure due to acute need of state property that can be used for the shelter of asylum seekers and administrative space for shelter´s workers.

The barracks were built in the 19th century, as a part of a bastion fortress. The five-storey building is located on a slope. From the 1. máje street only three floors are visible, the remaining two are below street level. It is an important urban element and an example of classicist military architecture with a unique architectural and military history.

Surroundings
The barracks building is situated in a historical centre of Olomouc, approximately 10 minutes of walking distance (600 m) from city’s main square (Horní náměstí), in a neighbourhood of museums, theatres and churches. City of Olomouc itself lies in a central Moravia, it is a major motorway and railway hub. Distanced approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes hours of drive from Vienna and 3 hours and 45 minutes from Prague by car.

Possibilities and purpose
The purpose of the building is an area of public facilities and monument zone.

The building was recently used for administrative and storage purposes but currently is empty. It can house 231 offices for 550 employees. The barracks building has a total surface area of 19.363 m2. This total surface area is divided in 6.601 m2 office space, 4.576 m2 storage and 8.186 m2 other area. The total office space is 34.1 % of floor area. The total storage area constitutes 23.6 %.
