The domed prison in Breda, which is now known as the Boschpoort Prison, is one of three domed prisons in the Netherlands. The prison was built between 1882 and 1886 to a design by Johan Frederik Metzelaar, who held the position of ‘engineer-architect for prisons and legal service buildings’. The gatehouse was designed by J.F. Metzelaar in 1883, and is located on the eastern side of the grounds with an entrance on Nassausingel.
The property appears in the municipal land registry of Breda, section B, numbers 4457, 4458, 4460, 7949, 8000, 8002 and 8081.
